2010 - Interview 3 - Bean Counters

Hmmm- not sure what to make of my interview, The one agency I actually like and use contacted me regarding a one year maternity coverage.  I hummed and hawed but Gabby showed me the light by telling me it is a good way to ride out the recession and earn cash.

The agency told me they had sent 5 resumes to Bean Counters and Bean Counters only wanted to see me. Lawrence (agency guy) told me it was pretty much in the bag, all I had to do was go and meet with them.

Oooookay, so off I go. The interview was rushed. 10 minutes max. I came away with two things : 1. they need someone to temporarily assist with a back log. 2. they need someone to cover a one year maternity (the HR chick told me they are continuing to interview for that over the weeks)

WTF??? Whats going on?? Its not that I want to be jaded but there is a reason I am.... Nothing is ever as simple as it sounds.

Whatever. I left Bean Counters at 330- Lawrence calls at 4pm just as I'm dashing off an email to him. I tell him that I'm puzzled by the interview and tell him what they said. He told me he honestly does not know anything about them wanting to continue looking. He did tell me that Bean Counters already had someone in place but after a few weeks they decided that person wasn't a good fit. Now they are being picky. (great)  What they want to do is ""try"" someone for a week or two and see how it goes before offering them the one year contract.

So fast forward to the good part : Bean Counters has offered me 2 weeks of temporary work. (Which may or may not roll into a one year contract) Now that I've had some time to think about it, I agree that it's probably the best way to go. What if I don't like it? This also gives me a chance to try them out.  I report for temporary duty next week Tuesday - Fri. Then the week after Mon- Thur. Stay tuned for more chapters to be added to this story....

PS
The office is a mere 8km from my apartment. Easy peasey short drive. They work 35 hours a week.
